I’m sleeping in the bed I was conceived in

I finally made it to Mom’s house to start the whole process of cleaning her house and moving her in with me.

After a long but enjoyable car ride across several states, I was ready for a good night’s sleep. Mom is now sleeping in the upstairs bedroom. Actually, she’s been sleeping up there for several years. So, Mom and Dad’s old bedroom, including their bed, is where I sleep when I visit. This time is no different.

The thing is…this bed is at least as old as I am, which means the mattress is over 50 years old. People of my parent’s era – growing up in the Depression – didn’t throw anything out, as long as it still served its purpose. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of support from a multiple decade’s old mattress. So, the sleep was deep but my back hurts!

The other weird fact is that I’m certain I was conceived in that bed. Just a little bit freaky…

Other furniture has met the same fate. Rather than replace what appears to be a perfectly good piece of furniture except for its lack of lumbar and leg support is simply augmented with a pillow. Nothing gets thrown away.

I’ve taken a couple of aspirin. Hopefully, that will slow the pain process while I’m in town, which should be less than two months. Mom appears to be excited to move, but I want to control the cleaning process so nothing gets mixed up or damaged, and I need a pain-free existence to make it a successful move and a good experience for her overall.

Wish me luck! I’ll keep you posted!

Are you a multi-generation household?

I’m excited and so is Mom. Mom is moving in! She’ll be traveling from a colder part of our country to a much warmer region within the next few months. However, getting here takes a lot of organization, let alone cleaning out the house she’s lived in for decades!

This process actually began a couple of years ago, when I started to clean my house to make room for Mom. I know a lot of people are going through this process, and I wanted to share some of my thoughts with others. Hopefully, we can all learn from each other and make the transition as easy as possible for everyone.

Thanks for visiting!

Talk soon.
